Robyn L. Coburn – Artist/Writer
Robyn Coburn was a costume, set and later lighting designer and technical director in independent theater in Australia, then Texas and California. From the mid-1990’s, she worked in the art department of low budget indie films.
When her daughter Jayn was born, to facilitate attachment parenting and later unschooling, Robyn pivoted to become a writer and visual artist. Her book, DERVISH DUST: THE LIFE AND WORDS OF JAMES COBURN, was published in 2021 by Potomac Books. Robyn’s new middle grade contemporary fantasy novel, MERMAID SUMMER, will be published next year by IFWG Press. Stand by for a special offer for LiG attendees!
When not making art or writing, Robyn helps creative professionals build careers in entertainment with job coaching and resumes and writes successful grant applications. She has gained almost $200,000 in city, County, State, Federal and private grant awards over the last three years for a non-profit arts association, as well as won grants for indie filmmakers and her own business.
Over the last 20 years Robyn has spoken at LIFE is Good, Free to Be, Wide Sky Days, NEUC, and the magic that started it all, Live and Learn. She lives in Los Angeles with her husband, James (nitrogen ice-cream king), their always-unschooled young adult daughter Jayn, their less-standoffish-than-hithertorescue cat Virgo, and most recent addition, a desert tortoise called Big Daddy.
